Like New/Used Donations to our Thrift Stores
All three of our Thrift Stores receive donations during store hours, closing one hour before the store for clean up. Sterling and Leesburg take furniture, but please call before bringing large pieces to be sure we have space. We take clothing, housewares, toys, electronics (working), books, dvds, and most such items. We do not take baby furniture, old TVs without HDMI, computers older than 5 years, mattresses, appliances, or items that are mildewed. We cannot sell furniture that is torn, stained, broken, or covered in animal hair.
We value and ask for your prayer support. No matter what our station in life, we all can pray.
Every service we provide is in some way supported by the local community; long-term loan of homes for shelters and food pantries filled by local organizations and restaurants. Churches send volunteers for maintenance, tutoring and other services and local businesses provide at-cost or free car repairs, dentistry, or supplies.
We rely on the generosity of our community to provide the supplies for our housing programs. Because of groups who collect items for us through various “drives” and events such as “backyard barbeques” with their neighbors and churches, we rarely need to buy our Wish List items.
Please consider how you might help to supply these needs for our shelters this year. Any donation of items from our Wish List is appreciated and tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
For over 35 years, The Good Shepherd Alliance has been dedicated to tending to the needs of Loudoun’s most vulnerable individuals and families. Through its many services, The Good Shepherd Alliance provides the guidance, skills, and opportunities necessary for success in life. The women, children and families whom we serve not only benefit from the variety of our programs, but also from their quality.
A gift to The Good Shepherd Alliance will enable us to maintain our high level of service to our community, develop new programs and reach a larger number of families in need. At the same time, a gift to The Good Shepherd Alliance can also provide substantial income, estate and gift tax savings for you and your family. Some planned giving techniques include:
- Lifetime Gifts of Cash or Securities
- Gifts of Real Estate
- Bequests in Your Will or Living Trust
- Designating The Good Shepherd Alliance as the beneficiary of your retirement plans
- Gifts of Life Insurance
- Charitable Remainder Trusts
- Charitable Lead Trusts
- Charitable Gift Annuities

Vehicle donations are always needed. Many of our guests are in needed of some kind of transportation help. Some need car repairs; some have no vehicle at all. We make it one of our goals to see everyone get their transportation problems addressed as quickly as possible. Financial contributions from our supporters are sometimes specifically designated for car repairs allowing us to help with otherwise insurmountable expenses for our guests. A $300 car repair is often out of reach for someone already in a dire financial situation. Many of our guests simply do not have a car. Because of vehicle donations, we have been able to give automobiles to dozens of families.
If you have a car you would like to donate, please call us at 703-724-1555 today. Your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
